The Symbiotic Bond Between Gaza's Farmer and Land Khaled Abu Madeen, a 50 year old farmer from Gaza City, has spent nearly three years away from his vineyards due to war.
Yet, despite the danger, he refused to abandon the land that has sustained his family for generations. The Abu Madeens have cultivated grapes and figs in Sheikh Ijlin since before Khaled's time.
His father and grandfather inherited the land, which eventually became Khaled's full time profession. However, in October 2023, Israel's forces wreaked havoc on Gaza, forcing Khaled to flee with his elderly mother.
