One trend gaining traction is the use of Irish Spring soap bars to deter pests from tomato plants. This practice may seem far fetched, but its roots lie in a 30 year old research study.

The University of Nebraska's 1991 study on deer management found that "bars of fragrant soap" could effectively keep these critters away from crops during critical times.
