Kalimantan's Inferno: A Warning Sign for Indonesia's Environmental Future Kalimantan, on the Indonesian island of Borneo, is once again shrouded in haze from widespread wildfires.
The situation has taken a disturbing turn this year, with over 1,250 hotspots recorded in just one week, nearly 900 of them in Kalimantan alone.
In response, authorities have deployed helicopters and thousands of personnel to combat the fires. Wildfires are not new to Indonesia, particularly during droughts or El Niño events.
